The
Hawaiian Islands are situated in the Pacific Ocean and consist of 5 main
islands.
Hawaii - The Big Island
Maui - The Valley Isle
Kauai - The Garden Isle
Lanai - The Pineapple Isle
Oahu - The Gathering Place
Although a relatively remote location, the Hawaiian
Islands are one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world.
Visitors are attracted to the tropical climate
and beauty of the Islands which boast some of the greatest scenery on
earth, from active volcanoes and lush verdant valleys to palm fringed
beaches and pounding Pacific surf.
Visitors can combine the top quality hotels and
restaurants with opportunities to enjoy the many recreational activities,
including surfing, diving, hiking, golf boat trips and whale watching.
Each of the five islands has it's own character, landscape and beauty.
Hawaii
Hawaii offers lush rain forests,
acres of orchids, vast ranch lands, sunny beaches as well as bleak expanses
of lava (some still smouldering) and snow capped craters.
To experience the beauty at it's most spectacular,
hiking the trails of the Volcanoes National Park is recommended.
Maui
Maui is thought to be the most
glamorous destination with it's never ending variety of landscapes, something
to suit all tastes as well as an exhilarating range of activities guaranteed
to appeal to the more active visitor.
Kauai
Kauai was formed by the eruption
of the now dormant Waialeale and is considered to be the most beautiful
paradise on earth. It has been the location for several films, including
South Pacific and Jurassic Park.
Kauai is a peaceful refuge from the busier islands,
ideal for those who prefer a quiet vacation away from the crowds. It has
many spectacular beaches but some are not safe for swimming because of
the powerful undertows, local residents can offer advice on where to swim.
Oahu
Oahu is most famous for it's
North Shore, the surfing capital of the world, offering some of the most
exciting and dangerous surfing (waves can exceed 30 feet !!) anywhere.
Other popular visitor sights are Waikiki beach,
the USS Arizona Memorial and the Polynesian Cultural Centre. For visitors
who enjoy shopping, the Ala Moana Center is the largest shopping mall
on the islands. Lanai is the smallest and least developed of the islands
and offers pristine beaches and excellent hiking trails among the miles
of pineapple plantations.
Accommodation on Lanai is limited to a few resorts
and townhouses and can be expensive but with it's deserted villages and
ancient sites Lanai is shrouded in an air of mystery.
Due to the diversity of these paradise islands
visitors can choose to stay on an island for the whole of their vacation
or to visit several or all of the islands.
For the more romantic
For the more romantic, the Hawaiian
Islands offer many locations for weddings, renewal of wedding vows and
honeymoons.
Accommodation on the Islands is of a very high
standard with most of the well known hotel chains represented.
There are many inter connecting flights between
all the islands or cruises that island hop. Hawaii can be incorporated
into many tailor made tours or destinations in the USA eg; San Francisco,
Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix, New York and many others.
