Memphis is the birthplace of Rock & Roll and the home of “The Blues”. Famous singers such as Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and B B King started their careers in Memphis. Martin Luther King was killed in Memphis and it is well worth visiting the National Civil Rights Museum where he was killed in 1968. Memphis is situated on the banks of the Mississippi river where many boat trips can be taken. Beale street has many historic nightspots and the Sun studios, where Elvis, Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison made many recordings is well worth visiting. There are great restaurants, nightclubs and music venues all over the city. Gracelands is a must visit for all Elvis fans and is situated just a few miles from downtown Memphis.
