New
England is situated in the North East of the United States of
America and comprises six states, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont,
Maine, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. This area has a rich and dramatic
history and is approximately three quarters the size of Great
Britain.
New England has much to offer visitors, with
countless attractions to suit all tastes from mountains and valleys through
to vibrant cities and spectacular beaches. In the Autumn the stunning
fall foliage creates a spectacular display of colour that needs to be
seen to be believed.
Boston
Boston has the distinction of being the oldest
city in the USA with much history and culture. Boston is a compact city
and is easily explored on foot!! There is however an excellent transport
system including subway, trolley's and buses making the many attractions
very accessible.
There are galleries, museums and exclusive shops
as well as many bars including the renowned "Cheers" and fantastic
speciality restaurants.
Cape Code
Cape Cod is situated about 1 hr from Boston.
Cape Cod has many legendary and unspoilt beaches attracting many families
and couples alike. The Islands of Nantucket and Marthas Vineyard are reached
from ferries departing from Cape Cod.
Massachusetts
Massachusetts stretches back from the Atlantic
shore to the New York state line. There are many miles of sandy beaches,
wild rocky coasts and rolling tree covered hills. Massachusetts has a
thrilling and turbulent history including religious refugees, whaling
and witch trials too.
Visit Plymouth to see "where
it all began" The Puritans landed at Plymouth rock in December
1620. There are historic sites everywhere including the 17th century breathtaking
recreation of a pilgrim village. The town of Salem is "bewitching"
and the Appalachian scenery delightful.
Rhode Island
Rhode Island is the smallest state of the Union
but the attractions are mightily impressive. There are 400 miles of coastline
with 100 sandy beaches, 18000 acres of parkland and one fifth of all the
registered historic landmarks in the USA.
Connecticut
Connecticut claims a rich variety of New England
hallmarks, an unspoiled coastline of small coves and beaches, mountains,
forests, rivers and lakes. Connecticut has many attractions including
120 state parks and recreational areas, colonial villages and historic
cities.
America' largest maritime museum
is located in the town of Mystic along with the first nuclear powered
submarine and the continents, last surviving whaling ship the Charles
W Morgan.
MAINE
Maine is the largest of the six New England states, being the size of
all the other five put together.
Inland Maine is a wildly beautiful and unspoilt
wilderness of endless pine forests. These forests are home to thousands
of moose and deer and to relatively few people. The famed rocky coast
of Maine has secret coves, plunging cliffs, sandy beaches and countless
old fishing villages and small towns.
New Hampshire
New Hampshire is a relatively small state situated
between Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine with a border to Canada and an
18 mile coastline. Despite being small, New Hampshire possesses true grandeur,
especially when the trees are adorned with their brilliant fall foliage.
Vermont
The name Vermont means Green Mountains and the
Green mountains weave through the heart of the state. In winter, they
lay thick with snow, bringing skiers and snow boarders to it's famed resorts.
In Autumn these mountains burst into a blaze of glory with vivid scarlet,
burnished gold and brilliant orange the colours of the spectacular Fall
foliage.
